Conference

The degree in Document and Information Sciences and Technologies (LCTDI) and with the collaboration of the Centro de Estudos Organizacionais e Sociais do Politécnico do Porto (CEOS.PP), of the Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto (ISCAP) promotes, via zoom, on December 17th, 2021, its XV Meeting under the theme “The Information for the sustainable development: relation with the Information Science”. This year’s edition is special because it commemorates 20 years of LCTDI, paying tribute to Professor Otília Lage, creator of the course.

INFORMATION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Sustainable development understands the world as an interaction between Man and the Environment, seeking to make people aware so that they take the necessary attitudes, at all levels (economic, environmental, institutional, social), for the existence of a balance that we all depend on.

In 2015, during the 70th United Nations General Assembly, Agenda 2030 was born, signed by the heads of state and government of the 193 UN Member States, during the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development. This Agenda includes the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

In the UN 2030 Agenda, access to information was recognized as a goal in Sustainable Development Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. The following goal is further specified:
«Objective 16.10: Ensure people’s access to information and protect fundamental freedoms, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements.»

The focus of the XV Meeting will be fundamentally on the two Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development;
  • Provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

The LCTDI meetings have a long history, and annually provide an opportunity for participants and guests, students, academics and professionals to interact and debate knowledge, experiences and best practices in the field of Information and its management, current issues, while promoting the external dissemination of the skills of graduates and masters in Information Science. This is an annual event organized by the students and teachers of the Bachelor’s Degree in CTDI and Master’s Degree in Business Information.
